ABOUT Dr. Igmidio C. Lat

The Author took his elementary and high school education in Tanauan, Batangas. Thereafter, he finished his Pre-law course from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City and law proper at San Beda College, Mendiola, Manila. Also, a member of the PI SIGMA Fraternity (U.P. Diliman) and Alpha Phi Beta (San Beda College). After passing the Bar Examination given in November 1981 and admitted to the practice of law on May 05,1982, he served as an Associate of Reynaldo Bagatsing and Ex-Fiscal Rogelio Nogales Law Offices. Also, he became an Acting Branch Clerk of Court of The Regional Trial Court of Batangas, Branch 7 and transferred to Manila, Regional Trial Court, Branch 30 presided then by Judge Pedro A. Ramirez, now a retired Senior Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals. He became the President of the Association of Branch Clerks of Court of the Regional Trial Courts of Manila (55 Branches). After his resignation as Acting Branch Clerk of Court (escribano) of Manila, he joined the law offices of Atty. Ricardo de Guzman and Atty. Francisco S. de Guzman (BAR TOPNOTCHER, 9th place). Sometime in June 1987, he became a Special Counsel of Manila and served as 4th Assistant City Prosecutor till his resignation on January1994. Prior to his resignation, he was promoted to 3rd Assistant City Prosecutor by President Fidel V. Ramos on February 1994 but did not take his oath. As prosecutor of Manila for almost seven 7 years, he had been a trial fiscal (now Prosecutor) of MTC Judges Virgilio Jiro and Rogelio Pizarro, RTC Judges Demetrio Battario, Jr., and Teresita Flores to mention a few. Likewise, Atty. Lat had the pleasure of being a member of 4 Task Forces under the Department of Justice, to wit: Task Forces on Estafa and Illegal Recruitment, Dangerous Drugs, Detainees and Hoarding. Attended a number of seminars and symposia dealing on Remedial Law, New Family Code and the act of cross-examination techniques. Likewise, a recipient of Certificate of Honor by the Philippine Bar Association, Certificate of Recognition in the field of law given by the Tanauan Institute Alumni Association, Certificate of Recognition as OUTSTANDING MEMBER in the field of law given by the You and I Club of Malvar, Batangas, and awarded a Plaque of Appreciation as Outstanding in the field of Prosecution by the Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity, San Beda College of Law. Also, he was nominated as Outstanding Public Prosecutor (Manila) to the 1992 Annual Awards for Judicial Excellence given by the Supreme Court. After his resignation from the Manila Fiscal’s (Prosecutor’s) Office and arriving from the United States of America, he became a partner of George King Law Office. He has his own Law Office at 158-A West Avenue, Quezon City (Tel. No. 920-58-59 to 60) and is a licensed Real Estate Broker. He finished his Master of Laws (LLM) and Doctor of Civil Law (DCL) with a general weighted average of 1.40 and 1.06, respectively. He got a grade of BENEMERITUS (equivalent to Magna Cum Laude) in both degrees at the University of Sto. Tomas Graduate School, España, Manila.
