    Description:

Environmental awareness has grown exponentially in the past few decades. The environment has traditionally been viewed as a virtually inexhaustible source of natural resources, and an unlimited sink for wastes from human activities. In the latter half of the 20th Century, however, industrialization, economic growth and booming global population have forced us to revisit the old notion of the environment as an invariant backdrop for man’s activities. Environmental issues are now a critical part of decision-making in government, business and the lives of individual citizens. These problems have also provided fertile ground for scientists and researchers, including those based in the Philippines.

These eight chapters give only a rough overview of environmental studies done by researchers at De La Salle University in recent years. At the time of writing, there are undoubtedly many more such valuable studies in progress, and it is reasonable to expect that the numbers will increase in the coming years. As De La Salle University enters its second
century, the challenge is to use this growing body of work as basis to become the “green” university, in an entirely new sense of the word.
