ABOUT Dennis B. Funa

Atty. Dennis B. Funa is the Managing Partner of the Funa Tantuan & Fortes law Offices. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree at the San Beda College of Law, where he was, in his second year of law studies, the Grand Judex of the Lex Talionis Fraternitas and where he founded the Hukuman student political party which to this day continues to be the beacon of leadership in the College of Law's campus politics. He finished his pre-law at De La Salle University in Manila and his high sholl at San Beda. He took his elementary studies at the Jesuit-run St. Francis Xavier School in Manhattan, New York City, United Stated where he was recognized by the archdiocese of New York City for his academic excellence in science and mathematics. Coming from a family that believes in the educational benefits of travel, he has traveled extensively across the United States during his elementary years and across much Europe during his high school years. Atty. Funa was a 1997 scholar of the London-based International Bar Association (IBA) in its Biennial conference in New Delhi, India. He was a 1999 scholar of the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarships in Tokyo, Japan. In his professional career, he has represented the country as speaker in various international intellectual property-related conventions, such as in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) – Asia Pacific Conference on New Technology and Enforcement of Copyright held in Indonesia in 1995, and in the WIPO-ASEAN Regional Round Table on IPR Cooperation and the TRIPS Agreement held in Thailand in 1996, as well as in several IP-related diplomatic conventions, under the auspices of the United Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland between 1996 and 1997. He briefly served the government in various capacities during the Ramos administration; becoming, at age 28, the youngest presidential appointee of President Fidel V. Ramos. Leaving the government service in 1998, Atty. Funa was commended by President Ramos “for the exemplary service, professionalism and deep commitment to our people's well-being and national interest which yo have shown in your capacity as a valued member of the Ramos Administration.” He was commended by the multi-sectoral Kongreso ng Mamamayang Pilipino (KOMPILI II) in 2001 for his socio-political contribution to the country. He is presently a Commissioner in the Commission on Bar Discipline of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, serving since 2002. On June 2007, he has named and awarded as the 'Most Outstanding Commissioner' by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. The award cited the works of Atty. Funa as being made “judiciously and justly, thereby ably and effectively assisting the Supreme Court in the supervision and regulation of the legal profession.”
