Conrado Baltazar

Biography

The author was born on August 2, 1952 in San Fabian, Pangasinan to Domingo C. Baltazar and Benjamina D. Mislang. He studied elementary and high school, respectively, at Christ the King College and St. Louis College, both schools located in San Fernando City, La Union. He studied at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) where he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering. Immediately after graduation, he was offered a job in the same university, initially as Research Assistant and later on, as Senior Research Assistant and Assistant Instructor. While working in UPLB, he studied part time for a Master of Science degree. In 1984, he transferred to the Don Severino Agricultural College (now Cavite State University or CvSU ) where he was hired as Instructor. One of the subjects he taught ever since and up to the present is Thermodynamics (which explains this book). While teaching at CVSU, he continued with his graduate studies in UPLB until he finally graduated with a Master of Science in Crop Process Engineering in 1987. In 1996, he was awarded a scholarship by the Department of Science and Technology for a degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering major in Operations Research at the De La Salle University (Manila Campus). He is at present working on his dissertation. Prior to this book, the author has also produced a number of technical articles published in different scientific journals, such as PSAE Journal (Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineering) and CEIT Journal (College of Engineering and Information Technology of CvSU), among others. The articles cover fields of study ranging from crop processing, irrigation engineering, operations research, simulation, linear mathematical programming and large-scale optimization. The author is presently investigating on the possible application of advanced optimization methods (such as Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing, Neural Networks, etc.) on multi-faceted Thermodynamic problems. He is happily married to the former Alma Baes Panganiban. They are blessed with four children, Alcona Mae, Connie Rose, Alondra Clein and Con Aldrin.
