Jose R. Mondoñedo


Biography

This is about the life and adventures abroad of a Filipino-American and his family. A son of Los Banos, Laguna; Jose Mondonedo has lived in foreign countries most of his professional life providing technical aid to projects of FAO/UN, USAID, World Bank and Peace Corps. The citation on a professional award he received reads: For his undisputed expertise in tropical crop production and farming systems with an international career spanning 40 years of teaching, research and direct field experience and being recognized both nationally and internationally for addressing problems in tropical agriculture in Central and South America, Southeast Asia and Africa; and for his brilliant record as a Professor of Agronomy and Horticulture at Universities in Guatemala, Puerto Rico and the Philippines; For his pioneering work in introducing skills such as multiple cropping, farm planning, terracing, contour strip farming, composting and other soil and water conservation practices including aquaculture; for having facilitated the transfer of expertise to local counterparts and conducting farmer level training programs through the village contact/model farmers; He was given this award in 1994 as the Outstanding Alumnus in the Field of Agricultural Education and Extension by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association.
